      African Mahogany Tight Seam planking over Laminated White Oak Frames; Bronze Screw fastened.  (Note:  MALAY is of the “later generation” yawls by A & R in which one of the improvements from earlier Concordias included glued laminated oak frames rather than steam bent)  White Oak Backbone and Floor Timbers.  Cast iron Ballast Keel - Wrought Iron Bolts.  Mahogany Planked Main Deck; Canvas covered.  Varnished Mahogany Trunk and Cockpit Coamings.  Canvas covered Laid Trunk Roof; underside with V grooves and painted off-white as well as the roof beams.  Varnished Locust Toe Rails.  Laid & Caulked Teak Cockpit Sole - the Cockpit has been rebuilt so that a large flush hatch opens which provides considerable stowage space as well as access to the after portion of the engine, and access to the pedestal steering cables, etc. The Teak Cockpit Seats open and have spacious Stowage Lockers beneath.


      Yanmar Diesel, Model 3HM, 27 HP, installed 1982.  Engine rebuilt by Mack Boring in May of 2002.  Approx. 900 hrs. running time since rebuild.  FWC through Heat Exchanger.  Racor Fuel Filter.  2.83 : 1 Reduction Gear.  Stainless Shaft.  16” by 14” two blade propeller.


      44 gallons Fuel in two Stainless tanks.  45 gallons Water total in three Tinned Copper tanks - one beneath stb’d. bow locker, and one each side beneath main cabin settees.  Polyvinyl Holding Tank beneath port bow locker.


      12 Volt system - two 12 volt Batteries in  fiberglass lined box.  Circuit Breaker Panel; Master Switch.  600 Watt Inverter.  Battery Condition Indicator.


       Forward is general gear, anchor rode & sail stowage, followed by varnished pine lockers each side with lift-up tops (A water tank is beneath the stb’d. locker & the holding tank is beneath the port locker).  A Swing-up Pipe Berth is each side above the lockers, with shelves outboard.  Next aft is a Hanging Locker to stb’d., and a full Enclosed Head is to port with Groco model K Toilet, Basin w/hand pump, shelves, and linen lockers outboard.  Additional Hanging Lockers are to stbd. opposite the head, with Shelf above.  The Main Cabin has the traditional Settee each side with the Concordia style berths outboard which form comfortable back rests when swung up, and especially comfortable berths for sleeping when lashed in the down position.  Locust Lockers are above and outboard of the Concordia Berths each side.  A Chest of Drawers is at the fw’d. bulkhead to port of center, with Book Shelves above.  The Locust Dining Table is attached to this cabinet, and has a drop down Leaf on the stb’d. side.  The Galley is aft, having a Stainless Sink to port with the usual Concordia Hand Pump, followed aft by a Stainless Top Loading Refrigerator with Sea Frost Cold Plate system.  To stb’d. is a custom built Two Burner Alcohol Gimbaled Stove, and custom made Shelves & Lockers are outboard each side.  Heating is provided by an Espar Diesel Heating unit.  Varnished Teak Cabin Sole.  The interior is finished in the usual Concordia manner - Varnished Pine Bulkheads & Locust Joiner Work, with painted off white overhead and trunk sides.  Numerous custom features have also been added.
The usual Concordia Butterfly Hatch is overhead in the main cabin; a custom made Opening Hatch at fwd. end of trunk, and Opening Ports forward, all with Screens.  


      Oval Aluminum Extrusion Main Mast - Mast Head Rig.  Varnished Box Section Mizzen.  Varnished Sitka Spruce Booms.  Aluminum Spinnaker Pole.  1x19 Stainless Standing Rigging.  7x19 Stainless Main Halyard on Barlow Reel type Winch; other Halyards, and Sheets are Dacron.  Full Battened Mainsail, Full Battened Mizzen, and Roller Furling Jib - all By Doyle Sailmakers 2003.  Harkin Roller Furling system.  Also older Genoa, Mizzen Staysail, Storm Trysail, Storm Jib, and Nylon Spinnaker - all reported in good condition.  Lewmar #26 Sheet Winches, & Merriman #5 & #2 Winches.  Sunbrella Main & Mizzen Sail Covers.

      MALAY is a rather special and well known Concordia “39” Yawl, having been owned, sailed, and raced by the highly respected and very experienced late Dan Strohmeier, who won the Bermuda Race in 1954 with his first Concordia Yawl, also called MALAY, which he later sold.
With this MALAY, (Hull No. 77 by A & R, built 1960) Dan continued his extensive cruising as well as racing (Bermuda & Halifax races, etc) and certainly collected an impressive number of trophies over the years.  MALAY has many unique features, and has been  well maintained through the years.
